Newborn Alien From Alien: Resurrection Computer generated graphics used in film lack the ability to interact on screen with actors. Because of this limitation many directors require physical effects to be created for use with the actors on set. This image is from the archives of Amalgamated Dynamics Inc., an effects company specializing in this area. For Alien: Resurrection ADI designed and built the creature called the Newborn which was born directly out of the queen alien. The puppet was controlled by hydraulics and electronics. The hydraulic end was managed by two systems of computers that continually cross checked information. The reason being that the puppet had to perform in very close proximity to Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder and we couldn't take any chances on having a hydraulic piston misfire or go off in the wrong direction when it was so close to the actresses.
