No Tremors 5

Well, it's October now, and still no word about the supposed new addition to our beloved franchise. I'm not sure how to feel about this myself. On one hand, my last 10 years have been plagued by repeated nightmares of watching a fifth Tremors film which was a horrible, humorless, soulless hack job. Literally, I would wake up completely pissed off that my favorite film franchise had been dumped on by some unimaginative director with no understanding of what made this franchise so special from so many other B-horror films. When word that Don Michael Paul had been hired to relaunch Tremors, I felt a dreadful chill run down my back as I am not a fan of his, and I could see him literally making my nightmares come true.
On the other hand, I would still want to see another installment, and even the worst version of my nightmare wasn't all bad. Am I being too hard on Mr Paul? Could another film, even one by Mr Paul or someone similar still prove fun and enjoyable? With Universal showing interest in this franchise again, could that mean more films down the line and the franchise receiving another burst of life. Like graboids themselves, Tremors films seem to have long periods of lying dormant and buried until one day the spring up from beneath our feet, catching us off guard. Maybe a Tremors 5 could still be good, even if it's bad.
What do you guys think?

You'll be happy/sad to know it was just announced.

Personally I think Paul might actually direct a decent sequel. His two latests weren't that bad, and they were both DTV sequels to theatrical films.
Tremors 5 a go!

It looks like I spoke too soon. After looking at the officially released photo, I would say feel cautiously enthusiastic. It was really awesome to see Burt Gummer back in action. I guess we'll see how it goes.

I too am curious about (and saddened by) the apparent lack of Stampede's involvement, but the press release makes it seem like elements of Stampede's original script are still intact (with such a big focus on the ABs in the writeup, I'm going to assume the bit about their egg-laying process will factor into the story in some capacity), despite the location and, probably, some story elements being changed.
I hope to see some word on the official FAQ soon about the degree of Stampede's actual involvement (or lack thereof) on the film.
Overall, I am beyond excited for the film. I've been waiting ten years for this, and I still can't believe that it is finally happening. There's no way I can not be excited. But I do really want to hear what Stampede has to say as well.

That's what sold me too, just seeing Burt Gummer again.
I am also very interested in what Stampede has to say on the matter, if they've been contacted at all, or are going to have any credit other than "based on the characters created by [names]". They did say in their latest FAQ update that they were going to update again when they knew more, hopefully that will be this weekend. Didn't take them (read: S.S. Wilson) too long to update last time.

Why on Earth would Universal not want the creators back when the creators want to be back? I'm sorry, this is just stealing the series away.

Yup, I read that. As disheartening as it is (very, very disheartening), I'm still very excited for the film... I've been waiting 10 years, there's no way I wouldn't be excited.
I just hope that, if this is a success and Universal wants another one, they go back to Stampede and allow them to do it the way they want to. It's going to feel strange not having that Stampede touch on this one.

I really wish Stampede had been involved with this, since it would be more 'true' to the Tremors tone of not taking itself seriousy; Still, as a fan of the franchise, I'll more than support it. I just hope that if this breathes new life into the franchise with more material being spawned afterwards, Stampede's involvement will be included.
Also, I can't exactly see the image on Burt's hat... Someone please tell me that's an Atlanta Hawks hat. They got the shades right and perfect, and the moustache from what I can tell. I just hope the hat is too. XD

Michael Gross actually posted a nice closeup of the hat on his Facebook just after the film's announcement. https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10704143_808396199203118_1289424177217656554_n.jpg?oh=efd96c8cd48dccdabf7179d38f20025b&oe=54D56303
BURT'S CAP has changed over the years, and this current version arrived just days before Tremors 5 began production. For those who are interested in purchasing a much cleaner version of Burt Gummer's bruised and battle-scarred cap, it is listed in the official Atlanta Hawks online store (Hawksshop.com), as the "Retro Slouch Adjustable."

Right!? And such a surprise too, I never expected a new film in the series. Especially not this long after the last one.

A poorly made Tremors 5 would be better than no Tremors at all, but the funding should be there for a good director , especially now that Melvin made it good in Hollywood with his Water Sales Business.
Why is the sunshine directly overhead in the opening scene when it is supposed to be morning in Tremors 1 ??
How does Rhonda catch up to Val & Earl so quickly since they passed her 7 seconds earlier running full tilt ( scene where the graboid "flys" )
Why don't we see a graboid tentacle on their truck as they speed away from the hillside where they got it?

A recent tweet on Twitter seems to hint at a new species of graboid for Tremors 5. Reffering to the originals as the North American graboids.
