Tremors reboot?

So apparently Tremors is getting a reboot. Straight-to-DVD by the director of such fine films as "Taken: The Search for Sophie Parker", "Sniper 5: Legacy", "Jarhead 2: Field of Fire", and the unforgettable episode of "Pacific Blue": "The Day Stalker".
His most recognised role may though be as the voice of Oggy in "Oggy and the Cockroaches".

How do you guys feel about this? I don't mind the fact that it's straight-to-DVD too much, seeing how only the first film was anything else. But I fail to see why the franchise needs a total reboot. I've always felt it's the kind of franchise you can just jump in with a new film. No need to even do Tremors 5, just switch locations and have a new team of people handle a graboid infestation.
They're filming in South Africa. Whether that's just because it's cheaper than the USA or it's actually a change of scenery I don't know. The fact that the director himself refers to the project as "reboot [of] the 'Tremors' franchise for Universal" makes me think it's just a cheaper place to film.

I feel ya. But I don't think I can beat my own curiosity if this ever actually gets made. It's been ten years since we last got anything.

Worth adding, I think, that I've heard chatter that Michael Gross recently talked about talks of a fifth Tremors film, albeit without the Stampede creative crew. I'm hoping that Don Michael just used the wrong term, and actually means that Universal wants to "boot it back up again".

They already have a new movie waiting to go. But Universal would rather kill the franchise and start over (with no guarante eof success), rather than build on what successes they already have.

Want new fans? Rerelease the original in theaters. Hype the Blu-Rays. Make the first free to iTunes/Amazon Instant Video for a while. Bring back the Tv series for another season. No need to start over when there's still plenty of fans itching for a 5th movie.

Yeah, I'm still hoping that this is what Don Michael was referring to. And that by 'reboot' he meant something along the lines of 'booting it back up again'.

Still, the choice of director doesn't exactly make me feel overly excited about the whole ordeal.

For the past 5 years I've had this recurring nightmare where I'm watching Tremors 5, but it sucks. The movie's big monster twist is that the graboid the heroes are chasing has mutated into a "Supper-graboid" due to Toxic sludge in the ground. The super-graboid is a deformed version of the graboid that has grown so large, it can flip the bulldozer and tunnel through rock. That part isn't so bad, but all other aspects of the film, like story, acting and SFXs, all feel like they were taken from Shark Attack 3: Magalodon, which is really bad. The Tremors fanboy in me is still afraid that if T5 is ever made, it'd turn out really terrible.

But still, I'd prefer a bad continuation over a full reboot.
